Your navigation chart will give you needed locations and names for your cruise, whether by sail, excursion boat, yacht, or US Mailboat. If you drive or hike to the tops of the many look-outs around the Lake, or ride the chair-lift to the aerial view from Gunstock Mt., you will be thrilled indeed by the island-beauty spread far and wide across Lake Winnipesaukee. Few spots in the world compare with this panorama of grandeur.
Although I have been a resident of Moultonboro for over 25 years .. I am now a new resident of Black Cat Island and find myself growing more and more curious as to the history of the Island. One of the 5 bridged islands on Lake Winnipesaukee … the entire island actually sold for $800 in 1853! I love its' proximity to town and prime location on the Lake. Shopping, restaurants etc... are all minutes away. A little tid-bit of information for those who do not know the Island: Part of the island lies in Meredith and part lies in Moultonboro and because of its bridged access, the island is well developed. The islands location allows quick access to the largest areas of the lake known as the “Broads”. Black Cat is the 13th largest island on the lake. Although it is centrally located on Winnipesaukee ... it does offer many calm and quiet areas making it perfect for Kayaking (getting hard to find those places on the lake)! If you have any pictures of the Island, I would love to post them here!
